Great job on this website show Mike! My family and I are relatively new to Simi Valley having moved here in 2001 from Canada. We fell in love with Simi Valley the moment we moved here and have no intentions of leaving any time soon. I feel proud to be a resident of this wonderful family oriented city, even though I am not a citizen of the U.S. All our visitors from Canada are also very impressed with our beautiful location and quiet neighborhoods. Simi Valleyians are the most friendly and welcoming people I have ever met, and trust me I have lived all over Canada and have NEVER lived in such a "warm" community.
Keep up the good work of showing just what Simi Valley has to offer!!
May I suggest contacting the Simi Valley Girls Softball league and showing the city just how PROUD they are to have the new Amanda McPherson Softball fields in Big Sky overlooking our gorgeous valley, and the MOMS Clubs of Simi Valley who greatly appreciate all the wonderful parks available in the city.

I think that I do agree with TS on one part. I have lived in Simi Valley for 30 years. I was born and raised here and I have never felt proud to live in this city either.

However, your video with the Simi Valley residents was just truthful. Unfortunately, most of the Simi Valley residents DON'T know what's going on. And that, I believe, was just a hard fact reality window into this little town we live in called Simi Valley. Those were just raw and honest interviews.

I think that we could improve the city a little bit more by making it more cultured. Maybe by including more Art & Music into the Simi Valley agenda. You know, what people usually travel outside of Simi Valley for, except try and keep it as safe as possible. God forbid we loose our reputation! For instance, the Strawberry Festival. It's just that it's so bland and boring out here. I know that most people out here love it that way and that's why it stays that way. Unfortunately, situations don't stay the same forever.

I do appreciate what you're trying to do, as well. I saw your article in the Simi Valley Acorn and congratulations. I think that you're the first person who's done something like this.

Hey,
Lived here 30+years and this site is very cool. If a person is not directly involved in something out here - you really never know all the specifics - this is a great forum. I will be bookmarking this site. Need any volunteers?

Yeah, I wasn't sure about the comments and I might go back in and edit the comment to remove the insult to the girls. They were really just enthusiastic participants and I enjoyed them.

I'd probably be getting off on the wrong foot by blocking the comments entirely, so I'm hoping my continued effort makes a better impact and more positive comments start coming in.

In the meantime, I definitely encourage both critics and admirers to tell me what they think or, better yet, send me their comments or videos to publish. I'm happy to do so. Thanks much!

I also live in Simi Valley and you can look me up in the white pages. The comments from TS are not appreciated. I've lived in Simi for 40+ years and have raised two girls. If you think those commercials drive me or my family to place shopping in Simi over shopping by convenience, quality and price, think again.

Mike: you shouldn't allow comments like his to be published, or entertain the idea of talking to him. He's a "hater" and his comments are mean.

As an aside, I admire you for what you're attempting and for putting yourself out like this. You'll get more like TS but this city needs you. Keep it up.

Hi Tom,

Thanks for the feedback. Can't say your derogatory remarks about these folks jives with my goals and I struggled with whether or not to approve this comment because of that. However, I am up to the challenge of making you proud of Simi like I am, so let's talk. Can I email you?

Also, to expand on what you are saying about Shop Simi First, could you tell me more about how the campaign has been effective and what metrics you're referring to regarding its success? I'd be happy to put up some videos and talk about it with you or anyone for that matter.

So, firstly, I appreciate what you're doing here for the city of Simi Valley. I do. I think this project has great potential and I am glad someone is doing it. I am excited for what it could become.

But, do you think you guys could maybe interview more people so that you can edit out the illiterate, mumbling, towny morons, or the maniacal 15 year old girls? (Seriously, was she okay? She had all the nervous system faculties offered by a magic mushroom)

It bothers me that there is someone over the age of 21 (Most of the young men in this video appear to be) who hasn't recognized the efforts of the "Shop Simi Valley" campaign and doesn't understand the importance of shopping locally first. I'm not exactly proud to call the people in this episode my fellow townsmen, you know? And I feel like in order for this whole Simi Show project to succeed, you need to do right by the town's people and make us look a little better than this to the rest of the world. I don't mean to be melodramatic by referring to your audience with the word, "world," but I am just keeping the medium in mind: This IS the internet.

I can even offer you a tip! Avoid conducting interviews anywhere near the Regal Theater entirely... It's really not a great cross-section of our residents. Maybe you could do these interviews outside of our public library, the civic arts center, or even the Borders bookstore.

Just some thoughts from a 25 year-old, life-long Simi Valley resident who has NEVER felt proud to live in this city. Not once.

Help me be proud.
